Our
Mission
Jazz at the Chapel began in
2009 with a collaboration dedicated to featuring local jazz performers in the unique and intimate setting known as the Illinois
Jacquet Performance Space at the Chapel of the Sisters in downtown Jamaica, Queens. Queens has been, and
still is home to jazz and to so many jazz greats. We plan to carry on the proud tradition of live jazz here at the Chapel.
Please join us!

JAZZ AT THE CHAPEL FILM SERIES An Evening with Lena Horne (2006)
Two
days after her two triumphant sold-out Carnegie Hall concerts, Lena Horne took the same show into New York City's Supper Club
to be videotaped for a special on the Arts & Entertainment Network. Her quintet with Donald Harrison, Mike Renzi &
Rodney Jones was augmented by the Count Basie Orchestra for four songs. Ms. Horne was in great spirits and brilliant form
and this show turned out to be her last public performance. After one more studio album a year later, Lena Horne made good
on her pledge to retire. Like everything else she did, she left in style with this stunning 72 minute performance.

The York College
Community Jam Session
Established in 2006, the York College Community
Jam Session is a chance for musicians to come together and strut their stuff! All instruments are welcome and the event
is open to anyone in the greater York College community, including students, faculty, staff, members of the community, and
beyond.
Copies of THE REAL BOOK Vol. 1 will be provided in addition to a weighted keyboard, bass amp, and a newly
purchased drum set! This is a low stress environment for all levels of musicians with high return! No previous experience
required, just the love of making music. Audience members welcome! Think of it as a musical study break. And who knows, you
may make a friend or two! See you there.
We
thank the City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation, Prospect Cemetery Association, Greater Jamaica Development
Corporation, New York Landmarks Conservancy, York College and private donors for their support.
